Does greenery make public space meaningful? With NDSM Lusthof, Studio Ossidiana wonders what a green garden at NDSM means, when is a 'public' garden accessible and under what conditions? This is what NDSM Lusthof, launched by Stichting NDSM-werf at the location on the wharf where Sexyland used to be located, is about.

Lusthoven have a rich history as places that were meant to stimulate the senses. At the same time, they increasingly became an exclusive place for the wealthy owners to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. One example is the private Lusthoven at the banks of the Vecht river, where only wealthy people from Amsterdam used to go. With this contemporary NDSM Lusthof, Studio Ossidiana draws a parallel between the pleasure gardens of before and the courtyards of today's apartment complexes, which are often only accessible to owners or tenants.

NDSM Lusthof fits in with the mission of Stichting NDSM-werf to create a permanent NDSM Culture Wharf, with space for the imagination of (inter) national creators.

Practical information

NDSM Lusthof is only accessible for the public to enter inside the installation at specific times. On the rest of the days, the garden can be viewed from outside. NDSM Lusthof can be visited continuously, both during the day and in the evening. The plants inside the garden will grow with the seasons, so the garden will look different each time of year.

This installation was made possible by Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst, and Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie. Plug Verfgroothandel made a contribution in the form of paint.
