To celebrate its fifth anniversary, On The Inside is proud to present Zwerk — an art project that revolves around the old, poetic word for “sky” or “heaven”. The word conjures up images of an ever-changing sky and provides a sense of freedom, space and infinity. But this openness also includes feelings of confusion, alienation, a threat that is not immediately visible, and the realization that people are only small in such a big world. The exhibition shows these themes with installations, film, paintings and photography.

What does hope look like in a world full of fractures? The group exhibition RE:FWD: A Reply to the Present, A Forward to Us All brings together the future visions of 22 young artists, starting February 7th at Kunstlinie (and from July 18th at NDSM FUSE). Through installations, soundscapes, paintings, textile art, and sculptures, they explore hope – critically, speculatively, and multilayered. Under the motto ‘without awareness, no foundation can form, and no one can live in a castle in the air,’ they delve into grief, resilience, and possibilities. Visitors are invited to see hope not as an abstraction but as an active process – and to contribute to it.

Under Pressure | Catarina Garcia & Jim Du Pan

Under Pressure by artists Catarina Garcia and Jim Du Pan is the winning entry of the NDSM Open Call 2023 and consists of a colossal steel ball that appears to rise above the shipyard. The base of the work is Kraan 7, a dilapidated, half-sawn crane that, in its heyday, carried pieces of steel from the warehouse to the slopes, where ships were assembled and restored. The sphere is illuminated from the inside and acts as a beacon for the environment, also visible from the water. The frame of the ball is wrapped in plants that move with the seasons.

SAIL Amsterdam
SAIL returns to Amsterdam for a triple anniversary edition: the 10th edition, 50 years of SAIL and the city's 750th anniversary. More than 800 ships, top performers and thousands of boats bring the city and its waters to life. It will be a spectacular party of connection with, among other things, four concerts in the unique old shipyard setting at NDSM from August 20 to 24.

As part of SAIL Amsterdam 2025, Zwerk offers a contemporary exhibition that invites you to breathe, wander and reorient. Located along the main route between the IJ-haven and SAIL On Stage, it provides a reflective haven amidst the festivities. Zwerk, the poetic Dutch word for air, conjures up images of an ever-changing cloud cover — a symbol of freedom, space and limitlessness. Tickets can only be purchased online and there are a limited number of tickets available.

NDSM Open Call | #LOOKUP! | SHELLS
De twee winnaars van de NDSM Open Call 2024 die we nu in 2025 presenteren, Look Up van Renée Marcus Janssen en Shells van Lyangelo Vasquez, is vanaf 12 September te zien in de NDSM Loods. Met de jaarlijkse NDSM Open Call maken Stichting NDSM-werf en Kinetisch Noord kunstprojecten mogelijk van kunstenaars en creatieven, gevestigd op de voormalige scheepswerf in Amsterdam-Noord.
