Amsterdam, March 2024 - The winner of the NDSM Open Call 2023, the Under Pressure project by Catarina Garcia and Jim Du Pan, will be on NDSM from April 22. With the annual NDSM Open Call, Stichting NDSM-werf and Stichting Kinetisch Noord make art projects possible by artists and creatives based at the former shipyard in Amsterdam-Noord. The art installation Under Pressure can be visited at NDSM the coming year.

‍Under Pressure

The winning entry consists of a colossal steel ball that appears to rise above the wharf. The base of the work is Crane 7, a dilapidated crane that, in its heyday, carried pieces of steel from the warehouse to the slopes, where ships were assembled and restored. The sphere is illuminated from the inside and acts as a beacon for the area, also visible from the water. The frame of the ball is wrapped in plants that move with the seasons. With the annual NDSM Open Call, Stichting NDSM-werf and Stichting Kinetisch Noord support projects that have arisen from the creativity of the NDSM community.

Practical information

From April 22, 2024, Under Pressure can be visited 24/7 at the NDSM shipyard. We advise visitors to take a look at different times of the day, the light in the work will have different effects on the installation during daylight and in the dark at night. The greenery in this work will grow with the seasons, so that the plants give the installation a different look every year.
