(Un)monumenting: Slackwater x Sunset in Amsterdam
From 16 January, two new works of art will be on display on and from NDSM. An installation of Holly Hendry on one of the slopes on NDSM and a sunset of Mike Rijnierse & Ludmila Rodrigues that looks on the IJ from sunset. Both artworks use characteristic locations as a starting point and enter into a site-specific relationship with the environment, the relationship to the water and the changing context of NDSM.
The works are presented within the program line (Un)monumenting where artists question the monumental character of NDSM as a place. At NDSM, monumental heritage, creativity, events and creators come together. In response, artists are always exploring what the specific character of the shipyard means and can continue to mean for the future of a city and its residents.
Slackwater is presented in an adapted form by Stichting NDSM-werf, 2024. It was originally commissioned by TheColab, The Artist's Garden, London, 2023.
