THE HAREM is a recent series of paintings by Yasemin Sözer, exploring far-reaching global themes, such as climate, migration and war. In these works, she evokes the world of the harem: a golden cage where power, ambition and intrigue prevail. Hundreds of women from different countries and cultures live here together—some as sultan's wives, others as slaves. Within the walls of the harem, there are both the women's laughter and the desperate cries of concubines who can't avoid their fate. A world of contrasts, captured on canvas.
